Stroke or brain attack is a condition marked by the disrupted flow of blood to the brain which results in the death of the brain cells. This happens due to the lack of Oxygen and various essential nutrients that are important for cell growth and development. Stroke can be life-threatening and calls for immediate medical intervention.
Stroke is further divided into two types - ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke.
The former is caused by a blockage in an artery, whereas the latter is caused by the bursting of a blood vessel. Ischemic stroke is the most common type of stroke, which is usually caused by the buildup of fats or blood clots in the blood vessels. Hemorrhagic stroke can be a result of uncontrolled blood pressure, expressive use of anticoagulants, aneurysm, traumatic injury, cerebral amyloid angiopathy or ischemic stroke that is left untreated for long.
