What are the indications for Periodontal Splints?

  • To stabilize moderate to advanced tooth movement that cannot be decreased with occlusal correction or periodontal therapy.
  • When it impairs normal masticatory function.
  •  Facilitates scaling and surgical techniques.
  • Stabilises teeth following orthodontic movement.
  • Stabilises teeth following acute dental trauma, such as subluxation, avulsion, etc.
  • To avoid tilting and drifting of teeth.
  • Prevent the protrusion of unopposed teeth.

What are the contraindications for Periodontal Splints?

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • There aren't enough solid or suitably firm teeth to stabilize movable teeth.
  • No occlusal correction has been performed on teeth with occlusal damage or interference.
  • Moderate to severe tooth mobility in the presence of periodontal inflammation and primary occlusal trauma.
